On Friday, July 19, Powell River Kings announced Dante De Caria will be joining the hockey club as its new broadcaster and director of media relations.
De Caria relocates from Ottawa, where he spent the past four years as broadcaster and head of communications for the Ottawa Junior Senators of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) and Ottawa West Golden Knights of the CCHL2.
“We’ve been looking for a broadcaster for a while now with Alex Rawnsley taking a new job in Nanaimo,” said Kings director of business operations Nadine Porchetta. “They’re big shoes to fill because Alex did a lot.”
De Caria’s application stood out, according to Porchetta. He also brings experience from working in baseball as a communications intern for the Toronto Blue Jays and broadcaster and communications assistant for the Major League Baseball club’s Class-A affiliate.
“He’s young, eager and will hopefully bring a whole new energy to the position and to our team, which will be fantastic,” added Porchetta.
De Caria already has ties to the coast.
“My dad was born in Comox and moved to Ottawa when he was young, so I have a little bit of family on the island,” he said. “I’m excited to actually see most of my dad’s side of the family that I never really got to meet when I was young.”
In addition to the location, De Caria said he is looking forward to joining the Kings organization and the community.
“I’m super excited to call hockey in the best Junior-A league in Canada,” he added. “I did four years in the CCHL and always heard from coaches and players that [the BCHL] is the top-tier league, so I’ve made it my goal over the last couple of years to try and get there. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
