In BC Hockey League action on Wednesday, December 18, Powell River Kings exacted revenge on Merritt Centennials for a home loss last Friday.

Five days after Merritt posted a 4-3 win at Hap Parker Arena, Powell River travelled to Nicola Valley Memorial Arena and cruised to a 6-1 win.

Centennials opened the scoring at 9:33 of the first period, before the Kings replied with six unanswered goals from six different players. Powell River captain Jack Long tied the score 53 seconds later, squaring the game at one before the first intermission.

Kings took control of the game in the second period, scoring twice, including Nic Portchetta’s eighth of the season (unassisted) and Levi Glasman’s 12th of the campaign, which came on a power play.

Powell River added three more goals in the third period, one on a power play (Jacob Badal), one shorthanded (Jack Brackett) and another at even strength (Jacob Slipec), to close out the scoring.

Kings outshot the Centennials 38 to 34; goaltender Derek Krall made 33 saves to earn the win.

Powell River’s four-game road trip continues in Penticton on Friday, December 20, and concludes in Wenatchee on Saturday, December 21.

Kings return to Hap Parker Arena to close out the 2019 portion of their schedule by hosting Nanaimo Clippers for a pair of games on Monday, December 30 (7 pm), and Tuesday, December 31 (5 pm).
