Following a scoreless first period, Powell River Kings’ offence exploded for four second-period goals enroute to a 5-1 win over Surrey Eagles at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, December 6.

Jack Brackett opened the scoring on Teddy Bear Toss night at 3:53 of the middle frame, resulting in a delay while players and arena staff collected the donated items thrown onto the ice by fans.

Surrey responded just over a minute later on the game clock, tying the score briefly until Davis Pennington and Jacob Slipec set up Rowan Miller’s fifth of the season four minutes later to put the home team up 2-1. Brackett added his second while the Kings were shorthanded before Pennington and Slipec combined to assist on another goal, this time by Nic Porchetta, for a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Nolan Krogfoss scored the only goal of the third period. Reilly Moran, with two, Jacob Badal, Michael Abgrall and Jack Long had assists in the game for Powell River.

Derek Krall stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the win and second-star honours. Brackett was named first star, while Moran was selected as the third player recognized.

Kings return to action tonight, this time on the road in Cowichan Valley. Game time is 6 pm.
