Powell River Kings shut out West Kelowna

Thomas Wardle turned aside 31 shots to lead Powell River Kings in a 3-0 win over West Kelowna Warriors on Friday, November 29.

The visiting Kings scored in each period. Nic Porchetta and Davis Pennington combined to set up Hunter McCoy’s ninth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, and Nolan Krogfoss and Ben Wozney assisted on Jacob Badal’s sixth of the campaign at 4:22 of the second period.

Krogfoss rounded out the scoring midway through the third period, with help from Brett Roloson and Michael Abgrall.

Wardle was named the game’s first star ahead of Badal (second) and Warriors’ defender Nicolas Ardanaz (third).

With the win, Powell River vaulted over Alberni Valley for third place in BC Hockey League Island Division standings with 29 points, one ahead of the Bulldogs. Alberni Valley holds four games in hand; the first of which will be played tonight against Cowichan Valley.

Powell River’s road trip concludes with an afternoon game in Prince George against the defending BCHL champion Spruce Kings on Sunday, December 1.

Kings return home to face Surrey Eagles on Friday, December 6. Game time is 7 pm.

Warriors outshot the Kings 31 to 27.

The teams combined to go zero for seven on power plays (Kings 0-3; Warriors 0-4).
