Powell River Kings win streak ends at three games

BC Hockey League team suffers overtime loss to Cowichan Valley
Powell River Kings

Powell River Kings scored four second-period goals for the second straight game, but this time the offensive output was not enough to secure a win.

After falling behind 2-0 by the end of the first period in Cowichan Valley on Saturday, December 7, Kings’ forwards Reilly Moran, Michael Abgrall, Jacob Badal and Brett Roloson each scored over a 12-minute span to put the visitors up 4-2. Capitals responded with just over a minute remaining in the second period and again 1:36 into the third to tie the game and force overtime.

Thomas Wardle made 32 saves in the loss for the Kings, including two in overtime before the home team notched the winner at the 1:48 mark of the extra frame for a 5-4 win.

Abgrall helped set up two goals for a three-point night. With an assist each, Roloson and Moran also had multi-point games, along with Jack Brackett, who assisted on two of his team’s four goals. Ben Wozney and Davis Pennington also recorded assists for Powell River.

Attendance at Cowichan Community Centre was 992.

Kings return to action today in Alberni Valley. The teams are currently tied for third place in BC Hockey League Island Division standings with 34 points each. Alberni has played two fewer games. Game time is 2 pm.
