Powell River Midget Rep Kings skated to a 5-2 win over the host club from Cranbrook to kickoff their provincial title defence at the 2019 BC Hockey Midget Tier 3 Championship in the East Kootenay city on Sunday, March 17.

According to assistant coach Scott Mastrodonato, the game was not as close as the score indicates.

"We outshot them badly," said Mastrodonato. "Cranbrook kept it close until late in the third; we scored an empty-netter to make it 5-2."

Midget Kings return to the ice at 8 am on Monday, March 18, to face Salmon Arm.

The tournament also includes teams from Dawson Creek, Castlegar, Quesnel, Terrace, Mission and Squamish.
