Sports brief: Powell River Kings skate past Cowichan

After splitting a pair of games on a two-game road trip to Vancouver Island last weekend, Powell River Kings returned home to host Cowichan Valley Capitals on Wednesday, October 3, kicking off three games in four nights at Hap Parker Arena.

After splitting a pair of games on a two-game road trip to Vancouver Island last weekend, Powell River Kings returned home to host Cowichan Valley Capitals on Wednesday, October 3, kicking off three games in four nights at Hap Parker Arena.

Liam Lytton opened the scoring in the first period and team captain Ben Berard added his seventh of the season early in the second, increasing the lead to 2-0.

Nanaimo cut the lead in half before the second intermission, but Ryan Brushett [above] scored his fifth goal of the season and second in as many games to give Powell River a 3-1 third period lead.

Mitch Williams then added his fourth goal of the year to seal a 4-1 win for the home team.

The three-game homestand continues on Friday, October 5, against Trail Smoke Eaters and Saturday, October 6, versus Langley Rivermen. Both games start at 7 pm.
