Victoria Grizzlies scored five goals for the second straight game on Monday, March 18, shutting out the hometown Powell River Kings to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven BC Hockey League Island Division final.

Kings countered the Grizzlies’ quintet of goals in game two with six of their own to record the win on Saturday, March 16, but were unable to solve goaltender Kurtis Chapman in game three. Chapman earned the win and first star honours by stopping all 31 shots he faced.

Grizzlies opened the scoring 16:37 into the game and took control in the second period with three unanswered goals, including a powerplay marker by Cameron Thompson. Kyle McGrath closed out the scoring in the third period with his second of the game and third of the playoffs. Carter Berger and Edward Yan also scored for the visitors.

Kings goaltender Mitch Adamyk stopped 21 of 25 shots before giving way to Matteo Paler-Chow for the final 20 minutes of the game. Paler-Chow faced only four shots in the third period and made three saves.

Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 1,170.

The series resumes with game four starting at 7 pm on Tuesday, March 19, also at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River.
