BC Ferries staff are repairing a toll booth gate after a car crashed into it the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The incident occurred just after 8:40 a.m., according to BC Ferries communication manager Astrid Chang, who said the “driver approached a closed ticket booth at Langdale terminal and went through the gate.”

There were no reports of injuries to BC Ferries staff, said Chang, adding the gate is being repaired. Ambulances were not called to the scene.

Gibsons Coun. Aleria Ladwig mentioned the incident during a Dec. 1 council meeting when discussing the need for alternative transportation options for children attending nearby Langdale Elementary School, who have to walk along Port Mellon Highway.

“I saw a vehicle lose their brakes, fly through the intersection and crash into the ferry terminal booth,” she said.

“It just goes to show that if we don’t have dedicated active transportation walking paths that are safe for children it is high risk.”

This is the second time in two years a car lost control and crashed into the ferry terminal booths.

In spring 2018 a 62-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after the van he was driving went through the intersection at high speed. The van flipped and wedged between two toll booths after the driver hit the brakes.
