NEW ROLES: qathet School District has made some administrative changes to its senior leadership in its schools, with some principals and vice principals receiving new assignments.

As part of the regular review of leadership in schools, qathet School District (qSD) has announced some planned administrative changes for the 2024 to 2025 school year.

In a media release, the school district stated that it would like to officially congratulate Shannon Behan, who will be leaving on a two-year secondment to be president of the BC Principals’ and Vice Principal’s Association. In her stead, Jennifer Kennedy will be stepping in as principal at Westview Elementary School.

The release also stated that Michael Hilleren will take over at Kelly Creek Community School as principal and Dean Thorsell will transition to Brooks Secondary School as vice principal. Mathew Hull will be the new principal at James Thomson Elementary School, along with Courtney Leigh as vice principal. Bill Rounis will transition to the principal’s position at Henderson Elementary School.

The vice principal roles at Edgehill Elementary School and Westview have yet to be filled, but more updates will come once plans are finalized, the release stated.

“Administrative changes at schools promote fresh perspectives, encourage innovative leadership approaches, and foster professional growth for administrators,” stated Jay Yule, superintendent of schools for qSD. “We are fortunate to have such a talented pool of leaders committed to these crucial roles in our district.”
