  BREAKING NEWS    – Catalyst Paper Corporation has paid $1.5 million in 2009 property taxes to the City of Powell River, $2.2 million less than its bill.

Water bubbling from broken pipe concerns neighbours


  BREAKING NEWS / VIDEO   – Neighbours of a house at 5640 Manson Avenue can't understand why the City of Powell River hasn't shut off the water bubbling out of what appears to be a broken pipe. They say the water has been flowing from the pipe since at least June 21. They also say city workers inspected the property and uncovered the shut off valve, but left the water running.

Violin soloist   AUDIO    – Laura Ha of the United States was featured in the 2009 Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific concert on Friday, June 26, 2009 in Evergreen Theatre at Powell River Recreation Complex. A packed house was in attendance, considered by some to be the largest audience ever for a SOAP concert. Ha and four other violinists competed in a session that was open to the public for the honour of being principal soloist in Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor. The competition was a new addition to the SOAP season that includes two full orchestra concerts and two faculty concerts as well as harp and percussion recitals.
