Charges laid in Marine Inn drug bust

Two of six suspects charged with cocaine possession in raid

Charges have now been laid against three of the six people arrested in a drug bust at the Marine Inn on Monday, July 4.

One person has been charged with possession of cocaine and breach of conditions and one person has been charged with uttering threats. Both individuals are still in police custody. The third person charged has been released from custody on a promise to appear on charges of cocaine possession.

Initially, police believed the investigation would lead to drug trafficking charges and possession of illegal firearms. Two guns found at the scene were found to be imitation firearms.

“They were being investigated and arrested initially for possession for the purpose of trafficking,” said Powell River RCMP sergeant Kevin Day. “Ultimately, charges of possession are being forwarded.”

Police found cocaine, drug paraphernalia and two imitation pistols during a warranted search of the Marine Avenue hotel late Monday afternoon.

Two of the six people were released by police shortly after the arrest with no charges laid, and a third person was released the following day, also with no charges laid. Police are investigating a stolen credit card in connection with the third person released.

The two individuals still in custody will appear in court on Tuesday morning, July 12. The third person charged is to appear in August.
