Letters: Dog unit unaffected; Hospital food a highlight

Dog unit unaffected I’m following up on the recent article published in the Peak related to the unfortunate closure of our local St. John Ambulance brigade and branch office [“St. John Ambulance closes Townsite division,” February 14].

Dog unit unaffected

I’m following up on the recent article published in the Peak related to the unfortunate closure of our local St. John Ambulance brigade and branch office [“St. John Ambulance closes Townsite division,” February 14].

I would like to clarify that this closure will in no way affect our St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. Our therapy dog unit is alive and well and will continue to operate and expand.

Everyone can count on our team of dedicated handlers and their loyal therapy dogs being seen out and about in the community at a variety of events held throughout the year, including at parades and expos, Willingdon Beach, Powell River Recreation Complex and Powell River Public Library.

Our child-certified therapy dogs will also continue to attend a number of schools for reading programs and we will continue to visit seniors’ residences and group homes in Powell River.

Hospital food a highlight

Early in February, I had reason to visit Powell River to see my brother as he is in the hospital [“Regional briefs: Updates VCH food service issue,” January 31].

Often a hospital stay is not pleasant, but looking forward to meals can be a highlight and I was pleased to see what was offered. Every day the meals were hot, nutritious and appealing in appearance and taste.

Kudos to the food-preparation staff.
