Kelowna Sparta jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead en route to a 9-5 road win over Powell River Regals in a Coy Cup qualification game at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, February 21.

The best-of-three series continues on Saturday, February, 22, also at Hap Parker Arena; game two is scheduled for 8 pm, after Powell River Kings and Victoria Grizzlies meet for a BC Hockey League game.

Regals made a goaltending change after giving up the fourth goal; the teams scored five goals each from that point on.

Regals and Sparta are competing for one of four spots in the 2020 Coy Cup senior AA provincial championship tournament, to be held in Quesnel from March 24 to 28.

If necessary, game three will be played in Powell River at 1:30 pm on Sunday, February 23.
