UPDATED: Brooks plays next match early Saturday at volleyball provincials

In the first match of the day at the 2018 AAA High School Girls BC Volleyball Championship in Powell River on Friday, November 30, the host club from Brooks Secondary School lost to Carihi Secondary School (Campbell River) in three sets. Scores were 25-22, 25-14 and 26-24 in Carihi’s favour.

In their next match at 3 pm on their home court, Brooks Thunderbirds came up short against Timberline Secondary School (Campbell River). Timberline won in two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18.

The tournament continues at three Powell River gymnasiums throughout the day today until the final contest at 6:15 pm. All matches are open to the public and take place at Brooks, Westview Elementary School and Oceanview Education Centre.

Playoff matches continue at each venue on Saturday from 8:30 am until 2:15 pm. Brooks faces Robert Bateman Secondary School (Abbotsford) in its next match at 8:30 am at Oceanview. The winner plays their second match of the day at 1 pm at Westview against a yet-to-be-determined opponent for 13th place. The loser will also play again at 1 pm, for 15th place at Brooks.

Bronze and gold medal matches take place at 3:30 and 4:45 pm Saturday afternoon at Brooks.

On Thursday, November 29, 16 teams in four pools played in a round-robin format to determine positioning for today’s playoff matches. Brooks finished fourth in Pool D after losses to Elgin Park Secondary School (Surrey), Dawson Creek Secondary School and Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School (Courtenay)
