London Drugs open across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley on Monday, May 6, 2024, after a cyberattack over a week ago. The pharmacy is open for a prescription refill.

Some Metro Vancouver London Drugs stores have reopened following a cybersecurity incident that forced the company to close its Western Canada outlets for a week.

The Canadian retailer discovered the "cybersecurity incident" on Sunday, April 28, and promptly closed locations across its network.

London Drugs said its restoration process following the attack is "rigorous" with "billions of lines of data and code to review." The company must also connect with several third-party provider systems, "all with different requirements," to bring its systems online.

"This is a time-consuming process and, rather than delay until all services and systems are fully available, we have opened our core services in some stores to meet the healthcare and everyday needs of our customers as soon as possible," the company said in a weekend update.

"We will be bringing other services and systems on board as soon as our reconnection work is complete, and they are fully operational."

The company previously told V.I.A. that it has "no evidence" databases with customer data were compromised in the breach, including its pharmacy patients and LDExtras members.

If any personal information is impacted, affected individuals will be contacted.

Jamie Hari, the director of cybersecurity and DNS at the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, told V.I.A. in a previous interview that the company will likely grapple with the ramifications caused by the cyberattack for a while. He added that it must stay closed until any potential threat is resolved.

London Drugs told V.I.A. it will update the public as the investigation continues.
