SURREY — British Columbia homicide investigators say a man has been found guilty of first-degree murder over a 2017 organized-crime killing in Surrey, B.C.
The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say Brandon Teixeira fled to the United States in 2018 after being charged with the murder of 28-year-old Nicholas Khabra, who was shot to death in Surrey.
Teixeira evaded police until he was eventually arrested in Oroville, Calif., and was extradited back to Canada in April 2020.
Police say he was found guilty of murder, attempted murder and a firearms offence on Monday after a lengthy jury trial.
Organized crime and homicide investigators say they teamed up to investigate a series of murders, including Khabra's, that involved an unnamed organized crime group and "multiple suspects" including Teixeira.
Supt. Mandeep Mooker with the homicide investigation team says it was a "complex joint investigation," praising the "outstanding work" of the BC Prosecution Service on the case.
