Former Pouce Coupe mayor Lorraine Michetti was fined $300 on Dec. 5 for exceeding the contribution limit for her 2022 campaign.

A letter from Elections BC noted Michetti filed an October 20, 2022, disclosure statement indicating she contributed a total of $3,100 to her campaign, acting as her own financial agent.

In 2022, unendorsed candidates were permitted to contribute up to $2,500 to their own campaign.

According to the letter, Elections B.C.’s audit and assessment team emailed Michetti on January 13, 2023 to note the overcontribution and to explain a requirement to return the amount over the limit.

An amended disclosure statement on January 18, 2023, was sent by Michetti indicating that the over contribution had been returned, and the file was forwarded to the Elections BC’s Investigations team for follow up.

Ultimately, Michetti was fined only $300, though she could have been fined up to $1,200, as she cooperated with the investigation as requested.

The former mayor had no other penalties under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
