Headed to Tofino? Give yourself some extra time — and patience.

Highway 4 between the resort town and Port Alberni will be getting three major construction projects from July to December — all requiring 24-hour single-lane alternating traffic, seven days a week.

The District of Tofino is warning drivers to expect delays.

The first project starts July 5 and runs through to late November with road-base repairs at Hydro Hill along Kennedy Lake.

It will have single-lane alternating traffic around the clock and seven days a week. Starting late September, for about a month, single-lane traffic will only be in effect in the daylight hours.

Drivers can expect 30-minute delays. Crews will start road-base repairs on Highway 4 Pacific Rim, southeast of Tofino Seaview Cemetery from early August to mid-September. It will be single-lane alternating traffic full time, with expected delays of up to 20 minutes.

The last project is east of the Taylor River Rest Area. Road-base repairs and resurfacing is expected to run from September to December. Drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes while single-lane alternating is enforced 24/7 over the period.

The District of Tofino is advising drivers to plan ahead and expect delays. Drivers are also reminded to use extra caution when travelling through construction zones and to follow posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel.
