Fire in Pender Harbour damages two homes

More than 20 firefighters spent most of the day at the scene on Narrows Road

Two Pender Harbour homes were destroyed by fire on Narrows Road in Gunboat Bay on Friday.

Pender Harbour Volunteer Fire Department fire chief Jim Cameron said they were called around 10:40 a.m. By the time they arrived, both homes were on fire. Several fire trucks came from Madeira Park and another from Garden Bay, with 19 Pender Harbour firefighters and two people from Egmont.

Cameron confirmed there were no injuries, and the homes had been unoccupied at the time of the fire. At this time, the cause of the fire is not known. Firefighters were on the scene until around 6 p.m.

Cameron advises people to be careful and to “just be very aware of our conditions right now.”

Original Story

On June 16, neighbour Dilys Williams said that the fire had spread to other houses, talking with Coast Reporter at 11:30 a.m. A video posted to Pender Harbour Uncut appears to show smoke and soot around a second home.

"It went up like it had been a fuel dump," said Williams. "It was horrible." Williams said the roof on the house engulfed in flames has collapsed.

"We've got huge support here right now," she said, noting that police and fire services were on the scene. "The local people have just done an amazing job."
