A person out for a run in Burnaby came face to face with a black bear on Tuesday. The Twitter account @kmwhitter posted a short video of the bear taking a stroll along a boardwalk at Burnaby Lake.

The Twitter account @kmwhitter posted a short video of the bear taking a stroll along a boardwalk at Burnaby Lake.

“Heading out for a run at Burnaby Lake when wildlife impedes the journey,” the post says. (See the video below.)

On Monday, trail walkers were being warned after a weekend bear sighting at Burnaby Lake.

“We received a message that a bear has been spotted around Wildlife Rescue Association early this evening and could likely be the same one spotted a few days ago by the Rowing Pavilion,” tweeted the Burnaby Lake Park account.

This sighting was on the south side of the lake and east of the rowing pavilion.

• If you see a bear, stay back 100 m.
• Never approach a bear and change your route.
• If you encounter a bear, stay calm and slowly back away.
• Help others stay safe by letting them know if there is one ahead so they can change routes.
• Ensure your pet is on a leash.
