Despite closing the doors on its Marine Avenue offices this fall, Powell River Home Care Services (PRHCS) is still open for business.

For the past 16 years the locally owned and operated company has been providing seniors living in Powell River and on the Lower Sunshine Coast with the assistance they need to continue living independently in their homes and giving families peace of mind that their loved ones are being cared for. Owner Michelle McIntosh decided earlier this year to transition to a home-based operation.

“We just wanted to let the community know that we have not gone anywhere,” says Michelle. “With expanding the agency to include a Lower Sunshine Coast division, we have restructured and focused on putting our energy and resources into strictly providing home and community care.”

Relying on web-based technology, both Michelle and Sandra (the company’s manager of human resources and scheduling), are successfully able to run all aspects of the business from their home offices. They have recently launched a newly designed website, prhcs.com, which outlines the services they offer.

“Powell River Home Care Services helps clients with daily routines that a person may have more difficulty with as they age,” explains Michelle.

The PRHCS mission is to provide excellence in home-care services for individuals and families based in integrity and dignity. Services can be personalized based on each client’s unique needs.

“This kind of service often assists with activities that are considered necessary for our clients to safely maintain their independence, such as personal hygiene, medication management, meal prep, or simply a daily safety check or two,” adds Michelle.

Friendly and caring staff members are able to relieve the stress and anxiety, not just for their clients, but for their families as well. There is peace of mind knowing your loved one is assisted with day-to-day tasks by competent and caring staff, says Michelle.

Furthermore, helping clients keep up with light housekeeping like washing dishes, laundry, organizing a grocery list and preparing meals can make such a huge difference in their day-to-day living, she adds.

“As people age, some seniors face greater issues with mobility and social isolation,” says Michelle. “PRHCS staff are able to help clients with their general mobility and provide needed companionship by spending time engaging in a number of activities, which can include playing games, making crafts and reading. Staff are also able to provide education on pertinent issues such as fall prevention.”

To find out how Powell River Home Care Services can help, call to set up an appointment. A registered nurse will come by the potential client’s home to assess needs and start to build a care plan.

“Based on your needs, we pair you with well-trained staff members,” says Michelle. “Should you have any questions or concerns you can simply call us or discuss them with the supervisor during one of their regular visits.”

Powell River Home Care Services also works in collaboration with publicly-funded supports to ensure clients are getting the best service fit available to for them.

Powell River Home Care Services is accredited by CARF Canada, an independent, non-profit accreditor of health and human services.
