Powell River Outrigger Canoe Society paddlers [from left] Brenda Allen, Helen Robinson, Lynette Mangan, Holly Peterson, Susan Hanson and Susan Milligan, and coach Michael Matthews, were at City of Powell River’s council meeting on August 2 celebrating the team’s achievements at the World Outrigger Sprint Championships in Papeete, Tahiti, in late July.
The group won gold and silver medals in the masters 70+ division, breaking a world record in the process, and Milligan won gold in the 70+ singles event.
The team came sixth overall in the 60+ division with a crew of made up of women mostly in their 70s.
