Icy dip: 2019 Powell River Polar Bear Swim

A brave collection of Powell River area residents and visitors were up for the 2019 Powell River Polar Bear Swim challenge on Tuesday, January 1, at Willingdon Beach.

The group joined thousands of British Columbians taking part in similar events across the province.

The “cool” start to 2019 was hosted and organized locally by Pow! Town Roller Derby members.

Hot chocolate and a warm fire awaited swimmers after they left the cold ocean water and returned to the sandy shore.
