Rotary Club of Powell River members helped move 14-ton rock into place at viewpoint

The photo above and brief below were published in the Peak in May of 1999.

Moving a gigantic rock into place at the viewpoint in Westview on Saturday, May 8, 1999, required effort from members of the Rotary Club of Powell River and other community-minded business operators.

The first verse of "O Canada" will be sculpted into the rock face along with the Rotary emblem and a motivational saying.

Rotary received City of Powell River Council's approval to install the stone monument at the Marine Avenue viewpoint. The monument weighs approximately 14 tons and is about one cubic metre in size.
