Agency launches video contest

Everyone belongs theme of amateur film entries

Dreamers of movie stardom can dive right into making their own film and entering the Everyone Belongs contest hosted by inclusion Powell River.

“Be inspired, tell your story, celebrate inclusion, and win fabulous prizes,” said Suzanne Giguère, one of the coordinators for inclusion Powell River’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

No experience is required for starring in the movie or standing behind the video camera, just enthusiasm for taking part.

“As part of inclusion Powell River’s 60th anniversary celebration we are encouraging people to share with others what inclusion means to them,” explained Giguère. “Everyone has a unique story to tell about what makes them feel included in their community. We encourage everyone to share their ideas through the power of video.”

Videos entries are to be short, no longer than five minutes, and can be developed in many ways. “You could use your Android phone or iPhone, create a PowerPoint slide show or craft a story with drawings, pictures, anything,” she said. “Let your imagination be your guide.”

There are two categories for entries: 15 years and under and 16 years and over. Videos can be submitted by individuals or by a team. “You can involve your friends, family members, classmates, community groups and co-workers to create your video,” said Giguère.

A week-long festival celebrating diversity, scheduled for February 2015, is filled with exciting events, and the winning film in each category will be part of the film festival night. The closing date for submissions is 5 pm on Friday, January 16, to allow time to notify the winners.

For more information, people can visit inclusion Powell River online to learn about eligibility, obtain entry forms, read through rules and regulations, or call Yvonne Russell 604.485.6411 extension 229, [email protected].

“Join in the excitement,” said Giguère.
