Thursday, April 4

On the Road with Children’s Activities (ORCA) Bus provides early-childhood fun and learning from 10:30 to 12:30 am at Town Centre Mall. StrongStart will be on board for ages 0 to 5 years. For information, or for additional times and locations, call 604.485.2132.

Legendary vocalist Dee Daniels returns to Powell River for a rare performance as part of the 2nd annual Townsite Jazz Festival. The gospel-influenced jazz singer is known for her four-octave range and on-stage persona and will perform at 8 pm at Max Cameron Theatre with an all-star cast of backing musicians that includes Powell River’s own Walter Martella on piano. Saturday, April 6

Come on out to a free family swim from 2 to 4 pm at Powell River Recreation Complex, sponsored by Powell River and District United Way. The free swims take place on the first Saturday of each month throughout 2019 and feature the complex’s inflatable sea snake. For more information, call 604.485.2891.

Powell River Garden Club presents a special speaker Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott, who has a PhD in horticulture from Oregon State University and is an ISA-certified arborist and ASCA consulting arborist. The club will meet at 7 pm at Cranberry Seniors Centre.

Thursday, April 18

A free Pancake Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt takes place at Westview Baptist Church, with breakfast served from 9 to 10 am and the hunt, for children up to age 10, starting at 9:30 am.

Tuesday, April 23

Powell River Garden Club meets at 7 pm at Cranberry Senior Centre with the topic: Smart Moves for Gardeners - Reduce Injuries and Feel Better. Presenter will be Terri Beck, who holds a bachelor of recreation degree from UBC.

Thursday, April 25

Malaspina Naturalists Club will host Jeff Belcher of BC Wildfire Service and his talk about BC Wildfires: Past and Future, 7:30 pm, Trinity Hall, United Church. Doors open at 7 pm, refreshments available. Everyone welcome. For information, call 604.485.0077.

Community Health

Powell River Community Health holds a youth clinic from 3:30 to 5:30 pm every Tuesday at Powell River General Hospital, third floor, 5000 Joyce Avenue. This clinic offers free and confidential health services to youth. For  information, call 604.485.3310.

 

Concert Band

Powell River Community Concert Band, directed by Roy Carson, meets 7:30 to 9 pm Thursdays in the Brooks Secondary School band room, 5400 Marine Avenue. Cranberry Community Hall Association

Cranberry Hall provides an affordable, versatile space for meetings and events at 6828 Cranberry Street. A song circle takes place on the second Sunday of each month and an acoustic coffeehouse takes place on the last Sunday by donation. The Powell River Garden Club meets at 7 pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month April to June and September to November at the Cranberry Senior Centre. Everyone welcome - come for an enjoyable evening with interesting garden information, tea/coffee and goodies.

 

Girl Guides

Narcotics Anonymous holds meetings at 7 pm every Friday in room 3018, Powell River General Hospital, 5000 Joyce Avenue. An addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live.

Powell River 4-H Clubs

Reach to Recovery

Reach to Recovery provides hospital and home visits to recently diagnosed breast cancer patients. Service offers one-on-one counselling with trained counsellors for anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and provides information. Rotary Club of Powell River

StrongStart

StrongStart early learning programs are available for children birth to pre-kindergarten at Kelly Creek Community School, James Thomson, Henderson and Westview elementary schools, and on the ORCA Bus. Scottish Country Dancing

Senior Citizens Association of BC Branch 49

St. Joseph's Hall hosts a soup kitchen from 12 to 1 pm every Friday. The hall is adjacent to Assumption Church on Glacier Street.

Stroke recovery

Powell River Stroke Recovery meets 9:30 am to 12:45 pm Tuesdays, September through June, at the Powell River Legion. Therapeutic Riding Association provides opportunities for volunteers to enjoy fresh air, exercise and guaranteed big smiles, 45 minutes a day or more, Monday to Thursday at Paradise Valley Exhibition Grounds.
