Art of the True Self opens at qathet Art Centre

Opening and upcoming drop-in sessions celebrate youth art

Art of the True Self Exhibition and Festival's opening celebration took place Wednesday, June 1, at qathet Art Centre.

The celebration, supported by BC Arts Council and many community allies, offered an opportunity to gather and celebrate youth art.

Drop-in sessions, open to the public and supported by artists, will be held on Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm throughout the exhibition at the art centre (215 - 6975 Alberni Street) until June 18. The exhibit brings awareness and support to the GSA group (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) and displays a variety of art in different mediums ranging from but not limited to canvas, digital, photography, sculptures, woodworking and more.

Art centre representative Karen Kamon said she was excited and inspired to provide the space for these dynamic local artists.

Artist and member Ethin Dube saw the exhibition as a great opportunity to help support and promote gender and sexual equality.

Local artist Mistaken Angel was drawn to showcase their art to promote and inspire the youth of qathet region.
