Two groups of students from China are attending Camber College in Powell River this summer.
The first, comprised of aspiring journalists, arrived July 7 and will be leaving July 17. Part of their program will be to write reports of their travel experience to Powell River, which will then be published in one of the largest newspapers in Guangzhou, China.
Dave Dickson of Camber College travelled to Asia in May and recently returned. He made the arrangements for the junior student groups.
Student chaperones requested a visit to city hall to meet City of Powell River Mayor Dave Formosa and a tour of the Powell River Peak offices. After visiting the newspaper office, two students submitted stories for publication.
When I first arrived at Powell River, I fell in love with this beautiful place. The sky is blue and the wind is warm. There are so many green trees and different kinds of flowers. My homestay house is very lovely. You can see some flowers in front of the house. My homestay parents are kind and understanding. And they have a dog named Bandit. Its eyes are very special because the colour of them are not the same! One is blue and another is brown.
And then I began to study at Camber College. I met some new friends there. My classmates are not Chinese, but they are friendly. By the way, many girls have said that they like my hat. The teachers there are also nice.
The next day I went to play beach volleyball on the beach with my Chinese friends and new classmates. The sun was shining bright and the sands were too hot to stand on. Although the environment was not good, we enjoyed ourselves. To be honest, I am not good at volleyball. When I began to hit the ball, I always felt pain. But my team members were not angry with me. They said it does not matter and I am good.
To stay at Powell River, I can practice my English and relax myself. I will have progress in taking care of myself and will know much more Canadian culture. All in all, I love Powell River!

When I knew my summer holiday will be going to Canada, I looked forward to going there. When I get here, I really feel Canada is a beautiful country. And everyone looks like my old friends. These days we went to many places like Willingdon Beach and Inland Lake. We do canoeing and horseback riding. Tomorrow afternoon, we will go playing watersports. I hope it is a good experience. This is my first time to come to Canada, so everything is exciting for me. I love Canada and I love Powell River more!
