Big Bike fundraiser rides into town

Teams to sign up for annual Heart and Stroke Foundation event

Teams are being recruited to ride the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike this June.

An annual fundraiser, the Big Bike draws teams to take a seat and pedal a two-kilometre route on Powell River roads, Monday, June 9.

In a press release about the event, the foundation invites local organizations to help Take a Seat to Extend a Life by getting a team of 29 together.

“This fun, team-building event is a great opportunity to increase employee morale and your organization’s visibility in the community and all for a good cause” said Jami Christie, special events coordinator of the foundation’s Vancouver Island area office.

“Events like Big Bike allow the foundation to continue funding world-class heart disease and stroke research, advocacy, and health promotion that is improving the lives of all Canadians,” said Christie. “We’re helping give Canadians longer, fuller, healthier lives.”

Last year Powell River’s Big Bike raised over $15,500. Since its community debut in 2001, the local event has raised $234,000.

Teams can register online or by contacting Christie at 1.250.754.5274. More information about the foundation is available online.

This year the event is being supported by Dairy Farmers of Canada.
