Bike tour aids cancer research

RCMP ride through all conditions on Sunshine Coast

Powell River RCMP constable Jen Crossman is rolling into town this Friday for the 2015 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

“About $7,500 has already been raised,” said Crossman, who organized a golf tournament, pole sit and beer and burger night to raise funds for the ride. “With money yet to come in from the spaghetti dinner fundraiser, everything additional is a great bonus for fighting cancers affecting children.”

Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast is a nine-day, 900-kilometre cycle through Squamish and Pemberton, and along the Sunshine Coast through to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. This is Crossman’s first time participating in the event.

“I was imagining riding through a hurricane, but the weather looks like it will be great,” she said. “It’s such a fun event for a good cause and I am really looking forward to getting going.”

Crossman will be arriving back in Powell River with the Cops for Cancer Tour on Friday, September 18 on the 8:25 am ferry from Earls Cove. She will be at Avid Fitness on Duncan Street by noon.

A pasta dinner and silent auction will take place at 6:30 pm Friday, September 18 at the Town Centre Hotel. Tickets are available for $15 at Powell River RCMP detachment or Town Centre Hotel. Readers can call 604.485.6255 for more information.
