An evening intended to raise awareness about changes to environmental laws in Canada, is being hosted by Sierra Club BC, Malaspina Chapter, on Wednesday, November 20.
Anna Johnston, staff counsel of West Coast Environmental Law and award-winning filmmaker Jeremy Williams will focus on the realities of wild land preservation and the impact of potentially detrimental changes to laws originally set in place to protect these lands.
Williams, who lives in Powell River, will screen his current documentary project River Voices, a film about the need to protect the Tsilhqot’in (Chilcotin) wild lands.
Johnston will explain the recent changes to Canada’s environmental laws, especially the Fisheries Act, and how those changes will impact fish, fish habitat and waters.
After the presentations, audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.
The event takes place at 7 pm on Wednesday, November 20 at Trinity Hall, Powell River United Church. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
