Students from Canadian Martial Arts Academy in Powell River gathered for a group photo before boarding a flight from Vancouver International Airport to Tokyo on Friday, June 29.
Ranging in age from nine to 50, and including parents of some students, the 28-member group is heading to Okinawa, Japan, for a cultural, exploration and learning trip to learn from weapons and karate masters in the birthplace of the martial art.
Participants will take part in seminars and experience a different way of life during the two-week journey.
