Westview Elementary School unveiled the first female welcome pole in School District 47 on June 13.
The event was emceed by Tyler Peters, Corinna Peters and her senior Tla’amin language class.
The pole received a cedar brushing to cleanse any negative emotions. Along with students, Tla’amin hegus Clint Williams, lead carver Ivan Rosypskye, superintendent of schools Jay Yule and respected elders attended the ceremony.
