BC SPCA is holding a special promotion under which the adoption fees for all adult cats are half price, due to the overwhelming number of felines it cares for at its shelters.
“The BC SPCA takes in more than 15,000 homeless felines each year and right now our shelters are filled to capacity,” said Bob Busch, general manager of operations for the organization. “We always see an influx of animals at our shelters during the summer season and this year is no exception.”
He added that he hopes the promotion will help spur people who want to adopt a cat, but are just waiting for the right time.
The promotion runs until July 31 and aims to find a home for the 743 adult cats currently being cared for in BC SPCA facilities.
Busch said people adopting cats from the organization get exceptional value, even without the promotion. Cats are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, given an identification chip or tattoo, and treated for any parasites or medical issues they have. They also receive daily monitoring, sheltering and feeding.
All criteria still apply for those wishing to adopt. Measures are in place to make sure potential adopters know the impact a pet will have on their lives. “We want to make sure that the animals are a right fit for their new home and that their needs will be met,” said Busch.
The promotion also includes 50 per cent off all rabbit adoption fees. Eighty rabbits are currently in BC SPCA care, with the majority of them having spent at least 100 days in shelters.
