Fun for all at fall fair

Burnaby steam train to visit

Organizers of Powell River’s Fall Fair are hoping to build on the success they had last year and have worked to make this year’s event even more interactive.

Powell River and District Agricultural Association hosts the annual fair at Paradise Exhibition Grounds from noon to 5 pm on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22.

“We’ve got great entertainment lined up this year,” said Jesse Black, an organizer of the fair.

In addition to Powell River Forestry Museum’s miniature train, fair-goers will also be able to take a ride on a visiting steam train from the Burnaby Central Railway.

“It’s the same size as the coal-powered train and there’ll be hand cars as well,” said Black.

All the regular Open Air Farmers’ Market vendors will be at the Fall Fair, in addition to many more selling their produce.

“We’re right in the middle of harvest, so there’ll be a lot of produce for sale,” he said. “There will be tons of food vendors, and as always lots of arts and crafts.”

Black said this year there will be “a pretty extensive kids area” with the ORCA (On the Road with Children’s Activities) Bus, bouncy castles, face painting, birdhouse building and other activities for children. “There’ll be all kinds of farm animals in the barn for the kids to check out,” he said.

The exhibit hall will be full of all the winners from the various category competitions.

A shuttle bus will operate between the Town Centre Mall and the fair grounds. The first bus leaves at 11:20 am from the mall and buses are scheduled to leave every 40 minutes. Tickets for the fair are $3 for adults and include the shuttle bus. Children 12 and younger enter free.
