From her deck south of town, early in the morning last week (4 am to be exact), Jocelyne Esterer captured today’s featured image of the moon over Texada Island.

On this day:
In 1871, British Columbia joined Canadian Confederation when Ottawa agreed to certain conditions, one being construction of a permanent railroad link between the country's east and west coasts.

In 1968, Chicago hosted the first International Special Olympics Summer Games.

In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first astronauts to walk on the moon after their Apollo 11 lunar module reached the surface.

In 1976, Viking I landed on Mars, becoming the first American spacecraft to land on the red planet and complete its mission.

Wednesday, July 20, is expected to be sunny with gusting 20 to 40 km/h winds becoming light in the morning and a high of 25 degrees Celsius. The forecast calls for clear skies in the evening and a low of 13 degrees.
