In 1989, the first episode of the animated series The Simpsons, called "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire", premiered on television.
In 1999, Boston Bruins star Ray Bourque became the third player in National Hockey League history to record 1,100 assists in a career in a win over Atlanta Thrashers. Wayne Gretzky is the record holder with 1,963, followed by Ron Francis with 1,249. Bourque finished with 1,169 and is now fourth, also behind Mark Messier (1,193).
