On this day:
In 1663, under King Louis XIV, New France, later known as Canada, became a royal province.

In 1876, two inventors separately applied for patents related to the telephone. The United States Supreme Court later ruled Alexander Graham Bell was the rightful inventor, not Elisha Gray.

In 1929, seven rivals of Al Capone’s gang were gunned down in a Chicago garage; the incident was later referred to as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

Today’s weather:
Sunny skies are in the forecast for Tuesday, February 14, as is a high of four degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to minus four degrees in the evening. For the full 12-hour and seven-day qathet region weather forecast, go to our weather page.
