In 1876, Canadian inventor Alexander Graham Bell made the first-ever telephone call, transmitting the words “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you” to his assistant, who was in the room next door at Bell’s lab in Boston.
In 1988, pop singer Andy Gibb died in England, at age 30, of heart inflammation.
In 1990, Canadian Kurt Browning won the men’s world figure skating championship.
