On this day:
In 1992, a tribute concert to raise AIDS Awareness, in honour of late Queen singer Freddie Mercury, took place at Wembley Stadium in London.

In 1992, British comedian Benny Hill died in London at age 68.

In 1999, two teenagers opened fire on students and teachers at Columbine High School in Denver, Colorado. 15 people died and 24 more were injured.

In 2010, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 workers. The blow-out that followed resulted in an estimated 200 million gallons of crude flowing into the ocean.
