In 1536, after Anne Boleyn failed to produce a male heir, the Archbishop of Canterbury declared her marriage to England’s King Henry VIII invalid. She was executed two days later for high treason.
In 1970, for $15,000, an anonymous buyer at a movie studio auction purchased one pair of the ruby slippers worn by actor Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, then donated them to the Smithsonian Institution.
In 1983, New York Islanders defeated Edmonton Oilers 4-2 in game four of the Stanley Cup Final to sweep the best-of-seven National Hockey League championship series in four straight games, also earning a fourth title in a row.
