In 1935, legendary baseball player Babe Ruth hit the final three home runs  (712, 713 and 714) of his illustrious career. His Boston Braves lost the game 11-7 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 1977, the first Star Wars film (A New Hope) was released in theatres.

In 1992, after the retirement of longtime host Johnny Carson, comedian Jay Leno debuted as host of NBC’s Tonight Show.
