In 1887, Banff Hot Springs Reserve was expanded and became, by an Act of Parliament, Rocky Mountains Park. It was Canada's first national park, and North America’s third.
In 1985, all 329 people, mostly Canadians, aboard an Air India Boeing 747 were killed when the plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Ireland due to a bomb authorities believe was planted by Sikh separatists.
In 2016, just over half of the United Kingdom electorate voted to leave the European Union.
