On this day:
In 1675, the foundation stone was laid for London’s Royal Observatory Greenwich, which is famous for being the location marking where the prime meridian (defines 0° longitude by international agreement) passes through.

In 1960, the movie Psycho, starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh, premiered in theatres.

In 1972, Paul and Linda McCartney and their band Wings were arrested in Sweden on drug possession charges after a customs official discovered a package of hashish in their belongings.

In 1990, the first spacecraft to be launched by a space shuttle, Magellan, went into orbit around Venus and spent eight months gathering data about its surface.
