In 1982, Princess Grace of Monaco died after sustaining injuries in a car crash one day earlier. The actress formerly known as Grace Kelly was 52 years old.
In 1994, midway through the season, and after a 34-day strike by players, Major League Baseball cancelled the rest of the 1994 campaign, including the World Series. At the time, Montreal Expos had the best record of all teams.
In 2012, actor Patrick Swayze, who starred in such films as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Road House and Red Dawn, died at age 57.
