On this day:
In 1957, legendary Montreal Canadiens forward Maurice “Rocket” Richard scored his 500th goal, becoming the first National Hockey League player to accomplish the feat. He scored the goal on fellow hockey hall of famer Glenn Hall of the Chicago Blackhawks. At the time, no other player had reached 400 career goals.

In 1990, Dances with Wolves, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, premiered in theatres. The film went on to win the Academy Award for best picture in 1991.

In 1999, singer Cher released “Believe”, which was later named song of the year by Billboard.

Today’s weather:
Rain is in the forecast for Thursday, October 19, as is a high of 16 degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to 10 degrees in the evening. For the full 12-hour and seven-day qathet region weather forecast, go to our weather page.
