On this day:
In 1783, at age 24, William Pitt the Younger became Britain’s youngest ever prime minister.

In 1904, the Dawson City (Yukon) hockey team began a nine day walk to catch a boat to Seattle, followed by a train ride to Ottawa to play for Stanley Cup in January of 1905. Ottawa won the best-of-three series in two games by scores of 9-2 and 23-2.

In 1975, British guitarist Ron Wood joined The Rolling Stones.

In 1986, Academy Award-winning Best Picture Platoon, directed by Oliver Stone and starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe, was released in theatres.
