Christine Creer submitted today’s featured photo, which she took at Donkersley Beach, south of Powell River, on a clear and cold day when the ocean was calm. Texada Island is on the right; the lower Sunshine Coast is to the left.

On this day:
In 1815, after escaping from exile on the Italian island of Elba, Napoleon Bonaparte returned to Paris and began his Hundred Days rule, which preceded the restoration of Louis XVIII as King.

In 1969, musician John Lennon married artist Yoko Ono in Gibraltar.

In 1973, eleven weeks after he died in a plane crash, Baseball's Hall of Fame inducted former Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder Roberto Clemente.
