In 1982, Wayne Gretzky became the first National Hockey League player to record 200 points in a season. He finished the season with 212, a record he would break with 215 points during the 1985/1986 season.
In 1991, the movie Dances with Wolves won seven Academy Awards, including best picture; Kathy Bates won the best actress Oscar for Misery. Jeremy Irons received the best actor nod for Reversal of Fortune.
In 2009, at age 61, Dan Seals, half of the pop duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, died in Nashville.
